Black crakes are a small species of bird with a habitat range in the Sub-Saharan freshwater marshes. Their diets include insects, fish, frogs, seeds of aquatic plants, and bird eggs. They are also often seen standing on, and picking the parasites off of, river hippos in a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship.
