Happy International Vulture Day!

The Topeka Zoo is home to Picasso, a 30-year-old King Vulture.

Picasso is incredibly smart and loves training with his keepers. He’s also very curious about his surroundings and, as his keepers would say, a little nosy. You’ll often find him watching everything, and everyone around him.

King Vultures are found from Mexico to Argentina and stand out from other vultures with their striking red, orange and yellow coloring. All vultures play a vital role in their ecosystems by cleaning up carcasses and helping prevent the spread of disease.

Make plans to visit the Zoo, see Picasso in action, and celebrate International Vulture Day with us!

A huge thank you to the Evergy Green Team for helping create a climbing structure for our newest resident. 🌳Thank you to KBS Constructors, our maintenance and horticulture teams as well as other staff members who have been hard at work updating and restyling the area.

Here's your next clue:
I may walk on the ground...or climb high above you.

Wishing a very Happy 5th Birthday to our cheetah girls, Cheka and Kuishi! 🐆

The sisters arrived at the Topeka Zoo earlier this summer and live with their mother, Bria, who is the only known cheetah to have a C-section and successfully accept her cubs back after recovery.

Both girls are very smart, but they each have their own personality. Kuishi is the “jock” of the sisters, highly motivated by food and always ready for keeper interactions. Cheka is a little more easily distracted and likes to do things at her own pace. Despite their differences, both girls enjoy spending time together and can often be found grooming each other or lounging side by side.

Come celebrate with Cheka and Kuishi! 🎉

Haven’t met these beautiful sisters yet? Plan your visit today!
