Pollinator Palooza & the Annual Native Plant Sale
- Online Plant Sale: April 24 - May 4
- In-Person Plant Sale: Saturday, May 9, from 8 AM to 2 PM (or until sold out) Inside Gage Park, on Zoo Parkway, in front of the zoo’s south entrance.
The Topeka Zoo will provide over 3,700 well-established native plants for sale, representing 45 varieties, to select from, for your own pollinator garden.
Plants are $5.00 each.
100% of the proceeds go towards local, national and international conservation.
Why Pollinator Gardens Matter
Planting a pollinator garden at your home increases the habitat for pollinators and helps to ensure their survival as they continue to work for us by providing the food and other products we need, and maintaining the biodiversity our natural world needs.

Pollinators, some of which are the smallest and least considered animal groups on earth, make all the difference in the world for every part of our environment and for our own food supply as well, but also make it possible for us to produce beverages, fibers, spices, medicines, and more!

Over 75% of flowering plants are pollinated by animals, and every third bite of food you eat is directly related to pollination, so without the assistance of those small but mighty pollinators, most plants including our own food plants, could not continue to exist.

But pollinators are in decline, facing many challenges to their survival in the wild such as habitat loss, pesticides, invasive species, climate change, and parasites.

You can be the difference by planting for pollinators at your own home, yard, or garden.

Pollinator gardens select native plants that provide blooming flowers during the spring, summer, and fall months.

With pollinators and native flowering plants having evolved together, native flowers provide the best opportunity for a wide range of pollinators to find the nectar (food) they need for survival.

Native flowering plants also provide the best egg-laying plants for many pollinators, increasing reproduction of those species.
