Topeka Zoo Map: Text Description

The top of the map represents north.

Entrances and parking

The Main/North Entry is located near the bottom center of the map, next to the North Lot, the zoo office, the gift shop, and Sunflower’s Cafe & Grill.

The South Entry is located toward the lower-right side of the map, near the Kay McFarland Japanese Garden. Additional parking is east of the South Entry.

A bus drop-off and group entrance is located near the southeast side of the zoo. A general drop-off zone is located along the lower edge of the main parking area.

West and northwest areas

Hill’s Black Bear Woods is in the northwest corner. Animals in this area include:

  • Black bear
  • Pronghorn
  • Golden eagle
  • Turkey
  • Trumpeter swan

The Mark & Bette Morris Family Tiger Trails and Den Academy is in the southwest corner. Animals include:

  • Sumatran tiger
  • King vulture

A construction area is located between Hill’s Black Bear Woods and the Tropical Rainforest.

Tropical Rainforest

The Tropical Rainforest is located in the west-central portion of the zoo. Animals include:

  • Cuvier’s dwarf caiman
  • Giant Indian fruit bat
  • Golden lion tamarin
  • Hoffmann’s two-toed sloth
  • Tropical birds

The Lorikeet Aviary is closed during construction.

Central area

The Animals & Man Conservation Center is near the center of the zoo.

The Event Lawn and Security Benefit Pavilion are also located in the central portion of the zoo.

Sunflower’s Cafe & Grill, the gift shop, zoo office, and Main/North Entry are located along the southern edge of this central area.

Northeast area

Camp Cowabunga occupies much of the northeast section. Animals include:

  • African lion
  • Cheetah
  • Hippopotamus
  • Patas monkey
  • Reticulated giraffe

The Ross Family Pavilion is located within this area.

Giraffe & Friends is located on the eastern side of Camp Cowabunga. Giraffe feeding is available in this area.

Lianas Forest

Lianas Forest is located east of the zoo’s center. It includes Bornean orangutans.

The map also marks this area as the future home of red panda and clouded leopard exhibits.

Future exhibit areas

An area near the north-central portion of the zoo is marked as the future home of black rhinos.

The Security Benefit Children’s Zoo and the Randolph Austin Family and Merchants of Fairlawn Plaza Shopping Center Play Zone are scheduled to open in summer 2027.

Kay McFarland Japanese Garden and event areas

The Kay McFarland Japanese Garden is located in the southeast portion of the property. Features include:

  • Rental spaces
  • Private event venue
  • Lotus Lounge
  • Koi pond

The venue and Gary K. Clarke Education Center are located nearby.

Guest services and safety

The map identifies locations for:

  • Restrooms
  • Food
  • Drinks
  • Gifts
  • Picnic tables
  • First aid
  • Automated external defibrillators, or AEDs
  • Tornado shelters
  • Stroller and wagon access

Some attractions and services are seasonal. Visitors should contact the zoo or consult the current online map for closures, construction updates, and exhibit availability.
