Do you love animals?
Do you enjoy talking with people?
Are you looking for a meaningful, flexible volunteer opportunity? If so, the Topeka Zoo Docent Program may be the perfect fit!
Docents are specially-trained volunteers who serve as teachers, guides, and zoo ambassadors. They help bring the zoo experience to life by offering hands-on learning, interpretation at animal exhibits, and support during special events. Whether using one of our Discovery Education Carts, leading guided experiences, or sharing fascinating facts with guests, Docents play a vital role in conservation education and inspiring our community.
Docents set their own schedules and receive in-depth training on zoo procedures, departments, and animals. After completing training, they join a passionate team making a real difference for wildlife and people alike.
Upcoming Docent Training Academy
This immersive, week-long program prepares volunteers to become knowledgeable, confident Docents ready to engage with zoo guests and support our mission.
Next Academy Date: March 23 – 27, 2026
