OUR TEAM OF ELVES!

Topeka is full of giving people, people full of talent and skills with huge hearts and a love for the holidays! The joy that lights up in their eyes at the mention of bursts of lights, oversized candy, festive music, dancing lights and the flavors and aromas while brainstorming around a table is such a site to see!

We have our own TOPElves here at the TOPZoo! With over 20 trades/businesses helping us, it's going to be the merriest moment ever! We greatly appreciate everyone’s support that is on the committee, we know this event would not succeed without our Elves. We have a very special Elf, our presenting sponsor Evergy! Giving us the power to bring to you Zoolights!

Our first introduction to a committee came in December 17, 2019. We have a core group of contractors that enjoy bringing something fun and new to the zoo annually for guests. That group was eager to hear what our Bright idea was going to be for 2020. From there we grew the committee with additional trades and on January of this year we got down to business. Creating themed zones, counting trees, designing shapes, calling the North Pole to get a hold of Santa and so forth. It’s fascinating to see the creative side of HME as they laser cut out animal silhouettes and candy shaped pieces. HME has been a part of exhibit and building enhancements at the zoo for a few years, most recently with our Kay McFarland Japanese Garden and Camp Cowabunga. Ernest- Spencer and Highland Millshop’ s handy work at the megoladon tunnel at Saving Sharks will illuminate into a tunnel of fun. Both back for this project, they are busy on their own sections.  We have many elves from SE2, Evergy, Hills, our very own Zoo Docents, FOTZ Zoo Board and their friends, contractors, engineers and more are out wrapping lights around trees right now. A group once certified by Foley will begin using a lift to reach those high places.

SDG never disappoint with the creative challenge! This year’s being the Holiday Village, where you can visit the Big Man himself, check out the trinkets in the shops around and visit the pantry in the Church. SDG along with KBS, PEC, Certus, PKMR, Washburn Tech, Conroy Constructors, KS Sand & Concrete, Torgeson Electric and Schmidtlein Excavating will soon begin building this holiday treat. Let there be light! With the help and guidance of PKMR and Torgeson Electric it’s going to be simply glowing. Of course we want to add some fun to the lights with some music, movement and make a splendid show thanks to our two programmers, Shawn Evans and Louie Cortez.

We are excited for everyone to see the amazing work these committees and volunteers have done to make this winter holiday a magical one!
