🏔️🐱 Mountain Lion Update! 🐱🏔️
Our Mountain Lion, Cassy, is 16 years old which is considered geriatric. A few days ago, she wasn’t acting like her normal spunky self. Over the weekend, our vet team did an exam under anesthesia to get full diagnostics on her. She has since woken up from the exam, and has shown signs of improvement. “While she’s not out of the woods, she is eating now and looking better.” states animal curator Shanna.
We are very proud of how many geriatric animals we get the privilege of taking care of at the Topeka Zoo. Animals living past the average lifespan showcases the amazing care accredited zoos can provide. On average, a mountain lion’s lifespan in the wild is about 10 years.
Cassy is taking time to rest and recuperate, and will be off display until she is exhibiting normal behavior.
We cherish every day we get to take care of Cassy, and hope guests get to see her sassy personality again soon. 🏔️🐱

Feedings take place inside the giraffe barn at the Twiga Feeding Station! During today’s clothing drive, Topeka turned up and turned out to donate gently used shoes and clothing! The final total weight was Tembo the elephant, PLUS Vision the Hippo (aka Tank) with the final total being a whopping 13,300 pounds!
