SUMMARY:Discovery Homeschool: Colors of the Planet
DESCRIPTION:Explore the colors of our planet with the Topeka Zoo’s Discovery Homeschool Program! Each class offers a closer look at science concepts through a presentation, at least one live animal, and a craft or activity. Classes are adapted to the participating grade levels and are open to the general public.\n2026–2027 theme: Colors of the Planet\nWhy can bright colors signal danger? Why is the ocean blue? We’ll explore questions like these as we work our way through the colors of the rainbow.\nDates and monthly themes\n\nSeptember | White: September 10 (K–4th grade) and September 17 (5th–8th grade)\nOctober | Red: October 8 (K–4th grade) and October 15 (5th–8th grade)\nNovember | Orange: November 12 (K–4th grade) and November 19 (5th–8th grade)\nDecember | Yellow: December 10 (K–4th grade) and December 17 (5th–8th grade)\nJanuary | Green: January 14 (K–4th grade) and January 21 (5th–8th grade)\nFebruary | Blue: February 11 (K–4th grade) and February 18 (5th–8th grade)\nMarch | Purple: March 4 (K–4th grade) and March 11 (5th–8th grade)\nApril | Brown: April 8 (K–4th grade) and April 15 (5th–8th grade)\nMay | Black: May 6 (K–4th grade) and May 13 (5th–8th grade)\n\nAll classes meet 10–11:30 a.m. in the Gary K. Clarke Education Classroom. Activities may take place outdoors, so please dress for the weather.\nRegistration is open. Pre-registration is required, and each class is limited to 30 people. The two sessions each month cover the same theme, so you only need to register for one session per month.\nCost per student, per class: $7 for Friends of the Topeka Zoo members or $9 for non-members, plus tax. Zoo admission is separate from the class fee and is required for everyone in your party.\nRegistration and payment are required for children ages 5–15. At least one parent, guardian, or caretaker must attend per family; one adult per family attends the class free.
