What is Campout with the Kids?

Treat the kids to a campout they will never forget. Grab your tent and camping gear and join us for a wild night of fun! Enjoy camp food, bonfires, s’mores, fishing, movies, games, and more! Create memories that will last a lifetime! Registration is REQUIRED and can be done by clicking on the link above (once it is available).

What can you expect?

Check in begins at 5:30 where you will be able to pick out your campsite.  Once camp is set up, you will be able to choose from a variety of activities going on throughout the evening such as fishing, tours, animal activities, a scavenger hunt, and more!  Dine on hotdogs, smores, and snacks.  At sunrise, you will be treated to breakfast followed by some special animal enrichment activities.  The event ends at 9:00 a.m.

What is the cost?

Early bird registration (before May 1) is $35 per person ages 3. Registration after May 1 is $40 per person. Children 2 and under are free. In order to keep costs low for everyone, we cannot offer a Friends of the Zoo member discount for this event.  All event proceeds go toward the support of zoo programs and animals.

My kids are older, may I drop them off?

No, everyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Is there a rain-out date?

We camp rain or shine. A rain fly on your tent is suggested.

Do you provide camping or fishing gear?

You must supply your own tent and fishing gear. We suggest earthworms or mealworms (buy at most pet stores) as bait although they will bite lures as well. Our pond is home to bluegill, largemouth bass, and a few catfish. Due to the current status of invasive aquatic species like zebra mussels, we respectfully request that you do not bring bait fish such as minnows to fish with, even if purchased from a clean source.

Do I need a fishing license? Can I keep fish?

You do not need a fishing license. All fishing is catch and release fishing.

Can moms come? Can we come without Dad?

Yes! We encourage you to bring the whole family no matter what the shape or size. This event is open to everyone.

What should we bring?

Tent, sleeping bag(s), Fishing equipment, sunscreen/bug spray, and your smile! While there is quite a bit of food to eat during the event, you are welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks as well (no alcohol).
